iPad Air Damaged by using Non-MFI Apple Charge Cable

Good morning,

In reference to TSH 70072 iPad Air that was permanently damaged by using a non Made for Apple(MFI) charge cable.  Please note that using the MFI cables have a voltage regulator in the lightning chip that prevents the charging system of the iPad (iPhones, ipods) to be overloaded.  This chip is referred to as the Tristar chip and the c48 or e75 ic on all Apple products.  We have seen a significant increase in this type of damage due to the sale of the “cheap” charge cables that do not have the lightning chip manufactured and distributed by Apple sold online, at gas stations and Quick stores.  We highly recommend either using the original Apple charge cable or an approved Apple MFI cable.  We can provide you with a list of cables that meet Apple’s specifications.  We can also supply you with the cables as well.

The typical MFI charge cable costs between $15 and $25 plus tax.
